Tsvetan Todorov
Tdorov was a theorist who believed that stories start in a state of equilibrium, which is then disrupted, setting in motion of chain of events. The resolution of the story is the creation of a new/different equilibrium. He summed up the journey in five stages:
- Equilibrium
- Disruption of equilibrium by a person or event
- Realisation disruption has occurred
- Attempt to repair damage or disruption
- Restoration of equilibrium (new equilibrium)
Narrative structure of Vanity:
- Zac and Flo are happy newly weds in a society where vanity isn't a main focus, people are more concerned with personality.
- Someone mentions to him that he is handsome, but this is something that is forbidden to say- they tell hi not to worry about it, but plants it in his head. Zac is in the bathroom and finds himself thinking about the comment when he realises his reflection for the first time -- looking at yourself for a prolonged period of time is frowned upon
- Zac soon becomes obsessed and infatuated with himself. His marriage starts to slowly fall apart due to his obsession with his 'new lover'.
